Being named Brayan in Colombia is often a disadvantage. The name is heavily stigmatized and commonly associated with vandalism, crime and negative stereotypes.
Could it get worse? Yes. On September 16, 2025, Colombian`s president Gustavo Petro, publicly reinforced this stigma with a controversial statement.
“In every working-class neighborhood there`s a Brayan who takes women who knows where…and leaves them pregnant and abandoned”
